Start Time: 2009-10-24 18:00:00
End Time: 2009-10-24 20:00:00

The Eastbourne Astronomical Society (EAS) is offering anyone an opportunity to see the craters, mountains, dark lava plains and other wonders of the Moon – as well as the planet Jupiter and its four brightest satellites, and other spectacular objects in the night sky – through telescopes from Helen Gardens, at the western (Beachy Head) end of Eastbourne seafront, on Saturday 24 October, 18.00–20.00 BST and Sunday 25 October, 18.00–20.00 GMT weather permitting.

(Note that British Summer Time ends at 02.00 BST on 25 October, when clocks go back an hour.)

If the sky is clear you’ll have an unforgettable, mind-blowing experience! It’s one thing to look at a photograph of the Moon or an image of the Moon on a website and quite another to see the Moon ‘live’, first hand through a telescope.

Knowledgeable EAS members will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, such as: How did the Moon form? What is it made of? (Not green cheese!) Why does it go through phases (from New Moon to Full Moon and then back to New Moon again)? And is it inhabited?!

Wrap up warm (autumn evenings can be cool!), bring a flask of tea, coffee or whatever and a pair of binoculars if you have one, and enjoy one of the most magnificent sights in all of nature!

Admission is free.

This event is part of the UK Autumn Moonwatch, which is itself part of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), a United Nations endorsed worldwide celebration of astronomy.
